Education is the key to uniting nations, bringing human beings closely together. in many parts of the world, civil society suffers because of situations of violent conflicts and war. it is important to recognize the crucial role of education in contributing to building a culture of peace and condemning instances in which education is undermined in order to attack democracy and tolerance. a culture of peace and non-violence goes to the substance of fundamental human rights: social justice, democracy, literacy, respect and dignity for all, international solidarity, respect for workers’ rights and core labour standards, children rights, equality between men and women, cultural identity and diversity, indigenous peoples and minorities rights, the preservation of the natural environment education is a key tool in combating poverty, in promoting peace, social justice, human rights, democracy, cultural diversity and environmental awareness. education for peace implies an active concept of peace through values, life skills and knowledge in a spirit of equality, respect, empathy, understanding and mutual appreciation among individuals, groups and nations. education is a process that starts at the next moment of birth of every child. education did not just mean teaching the students how to read, write and get a job. it also included developing the personality of the student to make him, an ideal citizen. so value education is education in values and education towards the inculcation of values. values-based education is an approach to teaching that works with values. it creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic attainment, and develops students' social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. the positive learning environment is achieved through the positive values modeled by staff throughout the school. it quickly liberates teachers and students from the stress of confrontational relationships, which frees up substantial teaching and learning time. it also provides social capacity to students, equipping them values education helps students understand what values are. values-based education helps students and adults embed those values into their lives, personal behaviour and social interactions. it establishes a parallel system of student achievement based on their values and behaviour, complementing the more limited assessment of academic attainment. switch social and relationship skills, intelligences and attitudes to succeed at school and throughout their lives. in the end we can conclude that there had been lacunae in our progress and if we do not check this immediately, the result will be disastrous. i am many not against science and technology but if we emphasize much on science & technology there are chances of our losing links with humanity which motivates us towards honesty and beneficence. international conference theme ‘‘values education for ethics & global peace’’ was organized on 29th and 30th, april 2016 in dewan college of education, meerut. around 700 educationalists participated in the conference from all over india and abroad. shri vivek dewan chairman dvsgi supported this conference morally and monetarily which made this conference a grand success. educationist and scholars shared their viewers and appreciated the indian culture with open heart. col.
